October is an important month for NaturalCycles as it ties in closely with our reason for existing and our socially responsible ethos. Why? It’s because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which aims to help raise women’s awareness to the common symptoms associated with breast cancer and seek help as early as possible in order to increase their chance of survival.
NaturalCycles, the world’s only natural birth control app, uses analytics instead of chemicals to prevent pregnancies. It is 100% natural and 99.9% effective, using the most powerful algorithm out there to pinpoint when a woman is fertile or not. Yes, that’s right unlike the pill; NaturalCycles is hormone-free and helps you ‘keep sex natural’.
The pill is the number one contraceptive method on the market, used by 104 million couples worldwide . However, it uses hormones to trick your body into thinking it is pregnant or menopausal by stopping ovulation. If no egg is released then nothing can be fertilised by sperm, therefore making it difficult for a woman to get pregnant.
However, the pill has side effects and one of these is the overstimulation of breast cells, which can lead to an increased risk of breast cancer. In a recent study, researchers found that birth control pills containing high-to-moderate dose oestrogen, increased breast cancer risk by up to 50 percent, compared with never or former use . And the longer the pill usage, the higher the risk – time to switch ladies!
You must also note, that the concern is greater if you’re already at high risk of breast cancer. This might mean you have a strong family history of the disease or someone in your family has abnormal breast cancer genes, called BRCA1 and BRCA2.
What is ‘Wear it Pink’?
Wear it Pink is a charity event run by The Breast Cancer Campaign, which raises money for breast cancer research with a pioneering and highly effective approach. The charity looks for opportunities where the potential for real impact is at its highest. This means the charity takes the necessary funding – raised by us – straight to where it can make the most difference.
The Breast Cancer Campaign wants to overcome breast cancer by 2050 through gaining a better understanding of breast cancer biology, as well as unlocking the genetics that are associated with the disease. All in all, this will create better solutions for more effective diagnosis and treatment according to each woman’s individual needs.
Wear it Pink is an event that takes place in the UK to raise awareness and funding for breast cancer research on an international scale. The Breast Cancer Campaign actively encourages collaboration and knowledge sharing to help scientists and clinicians kick-start innovation within the field.
So please help us, help them, by helping yourselves!
How to get involved
Raise money and awareness with us! For every woman that subscribes to NaturalCycles for a year, we will donate £2 (25SEK) to The Breast Cancer Campaign throughout October in aid of this worthy cause.
We also ask you to join us in ‘binning the beige’ and slipping on stylish pink clothing on October 24th to help raise awareness to women worldwide. We invite you to share your photos with us @NaturalCyclesNC and @BCCampaign with #wearitpink!
