Meet the team: Alex, the man behind the Graph

Where are you from?

Hertfordshire, England. Though I usually just say London as its close and no one knows where Hertfordshire is.

Tell us about your work at Natural Cycles.

I work as a Junior Front end developer, working on improving an already great app.

Why Natural Cycles?

As a developer at the beginning of a career most of the available jobs involved either gambling or extracting money from people through addictive in app purchases. Natural Cycles gave me an opportunity to utilise my skills in a way that helps people rather than harming them.

Your favourite project at Natural Cycles since you started?

So far working on the Graph. It gave me the chance to take a part of the app that the users really get a lot of value from and improve it, giving them a better user experience.

What does it mean to be a good Front end developer?

Teamwork is essential. Writing code that works perfectly is great but if no one can understand it its impossible for the team to continue improving upon it.

What’s one thing you’ve learned during your time at Natural Cycles?

I have learnt more about the female reproductive system and how the menstrual cycle works. This has helped me to better communicate with my long term girlfriend.

What’s your go-to place to eat in Stockholm?

Frunch, its close to the office and they know to serve me quickly before I eat all the bread.

Favourite feature in the Natural Cycles app?

The graph, but thats probably because I made it.

Favourite song?

Anything by “The Last Skylit Night”. Though it is my brothers band and this is just a shameless promotion that their music is available on a popular Swedish music streaming service.

Favourite quote?

Reality leaves a lot to the imagination. – John Lennon (I googled quotes)

Tell us about your hobbies?

I quite enjoy travelling. Particularly visiting different countries’ History museums and seeing how much of it Britain is the villain.

Meet the team: Manoela one of our amazing support agents

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Brazil. Before moving to Stockholm , I also lived in Argentina and Ireland.

Tell us about your work at Natural Cycles.

I work as a Support Agent, and together with the Support team, we help Cyclers from all over the world with their concerns and questions about  their unique cycles and Natural Cycles. I respond to our Cyclers in 3 different languages (Portuguese, English and Spanish)  I think this is amazing and challenging.

Why Natural Cycles?

It’s an amazing and innovative place to work.

I was looking for a job where I could use my language and communication skills to  help people with love.

Now as a Cycler myself, I am even more interested and I like the fact that you learn different things everyday.

Your favourite project was at Natural Cycles since you started?

It is one that I am currently working on at the moment. I am in charge of mentoring and teaching our new support agents.  Introducing them to Natural Cycles and our community of cyclers.

What does it mean to be a good Support Agent?

I believe a good Support Agent needs to be able to understand people and be passionate about helping others.

It’s important to be able to create interaction with the Cyclers and assist them when needed.

What’s one thing you’ve learned during your time at Natural Cycles?

I have learned a lot of things.  The most amazing lesson was learning about my body again. After 15 years on the pill I switched to use Natural Cycles and I am rediscovering myself.

What’s your go-to place to eat in Stockholm?

Its a restaurant just by the water close to the  Stadshuset/City Hall called Orangeriet. The food and the view is amazing.

Favourite feature in the Natural Cycles app?

The graph. It’s so cool to have an overview of your cycle every month.

Favourite song?

I don’t have a favourite song, but my favourite artists include Ed Sheeran, Michael Buble, Maroon 5 and Maria Gadu.

Favourite quote?

Strength does not come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t do.

-Rikki Rogers

Tell us about your hobbies?

I love sports! I do triathlons and marathons. I am passionate in crossing finish lines and collecting medals from different races around the world. I also enjoy going to the movies and reading books. My favourite author is Marian Keys, you definitely should read one of her books.

Meet the team: one of our website coders

Every month we introduce a member of the Natural Cycles team, this time around we had a chat with Sandy who is on the web team and works on coding our website to the next level.

Where are you from?

I am from Lahore, Pakistan. I have been working with companies all over the world remotely but this is my first real time office experience, and that in beautiful Stockholm.

Tell us about your work at Natural Cycles.

I work as a web developer in the web team. I love being on this team as it is kind of a central team that works with and helps all other departments including design, support, blog, app, e-commerce, marketing etc. We help every department with web solutions and maintain the tech standards. I love doing what I do every day because I can see how my work is making an impact in the real world. The team I am working with is highly competent, and I get to learn new things every day.

Why Natural Cycles?

There is no single reason I could think why NOT to work at Natural Cycles. Before joining Natural Cycles, I was a Cycler myself. I have PCOS, and nothing much worked for me, but this app did. I was impressed which made me want to be a part of this team. When I applied for this job, I did not choose a job; I chose the organisation.

Regarding workspace, I get to learn extraordinary things. I can see a positive, powerful impact of Natural Cycles app in my life, and every Cycler’s life that makes me feel proud of being a part of it.

My usual office day looks like a trip to a science museum. In my free time, I can sit with the research department and talk crazy scientific discoveries. Or I can meet some of the world’s best Doctors that visit and educate us on how our body works.

Working here feels more than just work. My favourite part is when I get to know more about other countries and their cultures over our lunch conversations.

Your favourite project at Natural Cycles since you started?

My favourite project is the one I am working on right now. It’s a separate educational website we launched for healthcare professionals. It’s for doctors and healthcare professionals, so they can get to know more about Natural Cycles, get all the info they need to advise their patients and can also get in touch with our medical team.

What does it mean to be a good Web Developer?

To me, a good web developer means being someone that your team can rely on. Being a team player and being open to trying new technologies, new methods and ready to face any worst scenario with a lot of backups. It is important that you know the technology, but it’s even more important that you are always upgrading like ios versions, dump the stuff you know and upgrade yourself with the better one.

It’s also important to truly understand that your work is something that risks the reputation of the entire organisation. No matter how good organisation is, if you fail to portray that way in the digital world, you fail everyone else who is working super hard. This brings a lot of responsibility to a developer, and there is very little room for being careless.

What’s one thing you’ve learned during your time at Natural Cycles?

It’s important to celebrate, appreciate and enjoy the small things in life.

What’s your go-to place to eat in Stockholm?

There is not any one specific place. Since I just came here 3 months ago and there are so many places to explore and so many cuisines to try, I go to different places and try different stuff. But I stop by Urban Deli or La Neta when I can’t decide where to go and what to eat.

Favourite feature in the Natural Cycles app?

Undoubtedly, the graphs & stats. Since I have PCOS, sharing graphs and statistics with my doctor is very useful.

Favourite song?

It changes with time and mood, but I want to mention a Swedish Song here. Recently I went on a cruise trip, and I danced on this song in the bar. I had fun, and whenever I listen to this song again, I feel like dancing. It’s called Dansa Pausa by Panetoz.

Favourite quote?

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Tell us about your hobbies?

Before I came here, I used to read about different cultures, countries and historical stories. Now, I get to listen to them live from the local people. Stockholm is diverse, and I meet people from different parts of the world. These days, my hobby is to explore diversity and identifying the common interests that make people co-exist in diversity so nicely.

I also love to travel and learn about new gadgets.

Where are you from?

I come from the East – China originally and then moved to Michigan, then I came to Sweden about 3 years ago. Apparently, I love being chilled so my next stop might be the Arctic 😀

Tell us about your work at Natural Cycles.

I take care of everything related to money including counting dollars every day and spending it too – that’s the fun part. And of course, I take care of investor reporting, assisting with fundraising, accounting and so on.

Why Natural Cycles?

The company is doing very well for itself, we just landed an investment so that’s exciting 😉 Of course, I work with very lovely people too and enjoy spending time with them – even after work. I like that we work at such a fast pace and we are growing fast.

Your favourite project at Natural Cycles since you started?

Fundraising – by far.

What does it mean to be a good Finance Manager?

Three things; solid ground basics, top-notch communication and strategic thinking.

What’s one thing you’ve learned during your time at Natural Cycles?

Afterwork means a lot 😉

What’s your go-to place to eat in Stockholm?

Faros it’s a Greek place, I like authentic food.

Favourite feature in the Natural Cycles app?

I like that you can share NC with your boyfriend if you want, he can just download it on his phone and take care of his girlfriend.

Favourite song?

‘More than you know’ – Axwell & Ingrosso, I’m also listening to ‘Something just like this’ from Chainsmokers and Coldplay.

Favourite quote?

“We need a roadmap for this”

Meet the team: Manuel, Frontend Developer

Every month we introduce a member of the Natural Cycles team, this time round it’s Manuel – one of our Frontend Developers. He is a part of the product team who work extremely hard every day on improving the app in every possible way.

Where are you from?

I am from the city of Buenos Aires in Argentina.

Tell us about your work at Natural Cycles?

I joined about a year and a half ago to work on the app. My job is to make the interface work.

Why Natural Cycles?

I try to find reasons to work at companies other than salary. Here I get the retribution of working at a business with a very clear social impact. That makes me happier than working for the financial or real estate industries like I did in the past.

Favourite project at NC?

I think the app’s graph view was a challenge with a great outcome. I can’t wait to revisit it and improve it even further, but the list of improvements we want to make is never ending.

What does it mean to be a good Frontend Developer?

There are many ways to be good at this job. I prefer those who are technically strong, still manage to keep their eye trained visually and also have a structured approach to user experience problem solving. Being so close to the design team also requires us to be good at communicating with non technical members of the company.

What’s one thing you’ve learned during your time at Natural Cycles?

What fika means 😀

What’s your go-to place to eat in Stockholm?

La neta, my go to Mexican at lunch time.

Favourite feature in the Natural Cycles app?

The graph, for sure.

Favourite song?

The whole Pet Sounds album maybe? I don’t know 🙁

Tell us about your hobbies?

Music, History, Science and the likes.

Meet the team: Dani, Community Manager

Every month we introduce one of the Natural Cycles team members so you can get to know what happens behind the scenes, this time round Dani our Community Manager is up. She takes care of all of our lovely Cyclers.

Where are you from?

I’m originally from Serbia.

Tell us about your work at Natural Cycles?

As a Head of Community, I find that our Cyclers are the most important. In the end, everything we do is for the women using the app. So whether it’s communicating a new feature, how the menstrual cycle works or hearing Cycler stories, my job revolves a lot around making the Cycler experience the very best.

Why Natural Cycles?

I’m proud to say that I’m the #1 employee at Natural Cycles. After graduating at Hyper Island, I was eager to get started and ‘change the world’ (as one of the slogans for HI is). After hearing the story about Natural Cycles from Raoul,  I felt like this will change the world for sure, and I want to be a part of it. And here we are now almost 3 years later.

Favorite project at NC?

I still find the very first projects at NC my favorite – like #CyclerOfTheDay or “Meet a Cycler” blog post series. Basically all things that include Cycler stories are usually my favorite.

What does it mean to be a good Community Manager?

I believe it means a lot of different things, and for me if I have to choose two important things, it’s to be empathetic, and to truly love the product.  Without these two, I think it my work would be impossible.

What’s one thing you’ve learned during your time at Natural Cycles?

Done is better than perfect 😉

What’s your go-to place to eat in Stockholm?

I have a few: Urban Deli, Meal Prep, and Nostimo.

Favourite feature in the Natural Cycles app?

The graph definitely, and of course green days.

Favourite song?

Lana del Ray – ultraviolence.

Tell us about your hobbies?

Photography and cooking delicious LCHF meals.

Meet the team: Rebecca, Customer Support Manager

We’re continuing with our meet the team posts – so you get to know who’s behind the scenes. Natural Cycles is a young startup that has a diverse, international and young team working on giving women an alternative  and ensuring to deliver the best possible product we can. This week our customer support agent is up – Rebecca!

Natural Cycles Meet the Team

First snow in Stockholm!

Tell us about your work at Natural Cycles?
I work with customer support, so I answer all of our Cycler’s questions be it by email or on social media and the occasional phone call.  It’s also a part of my job to be involved in finding things that could do with improvement within the app, reporting bugs etc. I work very close with Cyclers and have a good understanding of what they want and need.

Why Natural Cycles?
I started using it myself as I had already quit the pill about six months earlier. About a year later, I was looking for a new job and found an open position and just knew I HAD to work for Natural Cycles. I was already happy with the app, and the work the company was doing, so I really wanted to be a part of this. I was actually really nervous and excited to meet Elina for the first time too!

What does it mean to be a good support agent?
I am very compassionate and well-informed about all aspects of the menstrual cycle. I always try to put myself in the position of being the Cycler, asking for guidance and help with my menstrual cycle and sex life. It means having to be very personal with everyone, while still providing all the relevant information. I really feel and sympathise with all them and try to give the best advice possible.

What’s one thing you’ve learned during your time at Natural Cycles?
Almost everything about the menstrual cycle!

What’s your go-to place to eat in Stockholm?
A burger place South of Stockholm, Bun-Meat-Bun. I’ve always treated myself to their burgers after every big thing in my life – surgery, new apartment and this job too actually!

Favourite feature in Natural Cycles app?
The graph is my favourite. It tells me everything I need to know about my own body. It shows the entire menstrual cycle, with every up and down in temperature and cycle variation, and all data is accessible by tapping the data point. Alternatively you can see it all on the statistics page. I’m just really interested in learning more about my body and cycle.

Favourite quote?
Always treat others as you wish for them to treat you. This speaks to me on so many levels – it was my school’s motto which has stuck with me since I was 6 years old.

Read here about our Head of Design Daniel and look out for more Meet the Team posts!

Cheers,
Dani at Natural Cycles
